Coffee Background:

AsoProKia is shorthand for the Spanish words “Association of Producers, KIA”. The word “KIA” itself was taken from the Arhuaco Creole word meaning “Natural” or “Authentic”.

The Arhuaco are one of Colombia’s indigenous peoples, an agrarian tribe whose nation stretches across the thick forests and fertile valleys of these mountains of northern Colombia.  This word was chosen to demonstrate the harmonious relationship the AsoProKia co-op maintains with the ethnic Arhuaco.

Grown in Pueblo Bello Cesar, at the foot of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, washed by the waters flowing from the highlands, KIA organically-grown coffee is produced with a unique flavor and aroma, grown between 1,300 and 1,800 meters.

Co-op Background:

For decades, the producers of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, have grown high quality coffee with great sacrifices and hardships of all kinds.

To improve the conditions of these farmers, “PRODUCERS ASSOCIATION OF RURAL SIERRA NEVADA DE SANTA MARTA” (“ASOPROAGROCASN”) was formed with the help of the Specialty Coffee Program of the Departmental Committee of Coffee Growers of Cesar and Guajira.

The project consolidates development for the recovery, conservation and protection of the ecosystem under ecological production standards NOP, JAS, Europe, and the National Fair Market.

AsoProKia coffee is grown while respecting the worldview of the Arhuaca ethnicity, with the primary purpose of conducting social investment to our growers to cultivate the KIA coffee without affecting the fauna and flora, seeking to improve the environment of our Sierra Nevada, proposed by the balance of the ecosystem and the protection of its archaeological and ancestral wealth, land constituted his greatest legacy that we must preserve.
