    Arabica Roasters' General Manager Stuart Eunson and I had the pleasure of dropping by BOCADO last Friday, narrowly avoiding the massive rainstorm that rocked Shanghai for several hours and turned streets into canals throughout the city.  From the second floor, we stayed dry and watched as cars and bicycles alike left waves in their wake along the sidewalk.

    We were greeted by Charles Cabell IV, El Patron of BOCADO.  Charles has been really excited about BOCADO's Espresso Martini, which he says is easily their best-selling cocktail, outselling even the Sangria!  The drink sells so well throughout the evening and into night that he has even begun to suggest that customers opt for Decaf rather than regular espresso in their drinks!


    Simply delicious.

    The basic recipe for the BOCADO Espresso Martini is:

    Fresh Cup Blend Espresso 45 mL
    Vodka 45 mL
    Kahlua 15 mL

    While the recipe for BOCADO's Espresso Martini is simple, the trick is in the preparation.  Charles pointed out that it is crucial to prepare the espresso earlier, so it won't melt the ice and dilute the coffee's flavor, but not too early, as this will cause the coffee to taste bitter.  

    BOCADO uses Arabica Roaster's Fresh Cup Brand Coffee for all of its espresso-based drinks.  Fresh Cup was created with espresso in mind, and the chocolaty flavors in the blend work to complement the sweetness of the Kahlua.  Garnished with a few coffee beans, coffee fanatics will enjoy this crispy, caffeinated finish.

    While sipping on a few Espresso Martinis (yes, it's nearly impossible to have just one), Stuart, Charles and I picked at a variety of traditional Spanish tapas.  We let El Patron choose the dishes and everything was fantastic!!  Below, I've included just a few of photos that I managed to snap before the dishes disappeared.
