Environmental Protection Through Coffee —— Rotary Beijing 2016 German Christmas Bazaar

Arabica Coffee Roasters is proud to have been able to participate in the Rotary Club of Beijing's 2016 Christmas Charit Bazaar.

The Christmas Bazaar attracted a range of shoppers whose backgrounds ranged from diplomats and heads of MNCs, to a range of well heeled local and foreing shoppers in China. All were in attendance to find gifts for the people on their "nice" Christmas lists (although rumor has it there was gifts appropriate for the "naughty" lists also). The Bazaar is an annual fund raising event put on by the Rotary Club of Beijing. The funds raised during this event are used to support the local charities listed below.

The coffee served at the event was a special Jane Goodall Organic Low Carbon Blend, and of course the best milk on the Chinese market right now, Arborea.  Arabica Coffee Roasters was very happy to be able help support Rotary's causes below, and thanks Arborea for their support also.

Rotary is made up of three parts: at the heart of Rotary are our clubs, that are supported by Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.

Rotary clubs bring together dedicated individuals to exchange ideas, build relationships, and take action.

Rotary International supports Rotary clubs worldwide by coordinating global programs, campaigns, and initiatives.

The Rotary Foundation uses generous donations to fund projects by Rotarians and our partners in communities around the world. As a nonprofit, all of the Foundation's funding comes from voluntary contributions made by Rotarians and friends who share our vision of a better world.

Together, Rotary clubs, Rotary International, and The Rotary Foundation work to make lasting improvements in our communities and around the world.

Rotary has a long history in China that dates back to 1919 when the first club in China (and the second club in Asia) was chartered in Shanghai. This first English-language club was predominantly comprised of expatriate Americans and British, but it soon took on a very international flavour as it welcomed other nationalities to its roster including prominent local Chinese businessmen.

Rotary flourished in China before and after the war, and ultimately spawned 33 clubs throughout the mainland up to Liberation in 1949. After 1949 however it quickly became impossible for Rotarians to meet and so most members moved abroad and so the remaining clubs were formally disbanded by Rotary International in 1952.

    Rotary Club of Beijing's Projects:

    北京扶轮社直接捐赠支持的慈善项目

    roundabout众爱:

Roundabout is a social enterprise headed by volunteers. We provide a free service connecting those who wish to give, be that monetary or otherwise, to those in need. Started in 2008, we were the first charity store in mainland China. We now give support to 48 charitable organizations in the Beijing area and many more throughout China, Inner Mongolia and Mongolia.

    little flowers小花项目:
The work of Little Flower was begun by Brent and Serena Johnson in 1995 when they became aware of the great need for specialized care programs for abandoned children in China. In 1998 they began the process of setting up as a registered non-profit in the USA and received 501(c)(3) status in 2000. Brent and Serena have always donated their time, energy, expertise and resources to the organization and accept no salary or financial compensation for their work.

    star fisch project星星雨项目:
Beijing Stars and Rain is based in the outskirts of Beijing, China, and is dedicated to improving the quality of life for autistic children and their parents within China. We achieve this through a unique way of operating - by training the parents, rather than the children. Because of the inadequate provision of care for autistic children in China, it would be impossible to directly educate more than a fraction of the autistic children in the country. To get around this problem we focus on giving parents the skills to educate their own children, through a 3-month residential course in Beijing. This has allowed us to help over 2,000 (1993-2004)families since the organisation was founded.

The German Christmas Bazaar creates a win-win environment for all participants. But the most important "winners" of course are those less fortunate who are on the receiving end of Rotary's charitable efforts.   Arabica Roasters is pround to be able to help, in whatever small way we can, to make this event a success.

Thank you Rotary Beijing for giving us this opportunity.
