Let's learn how to make a cappuccino!
We'll need a cappuccino Cup – the bigger of the Two basic types.
Grab it off the top of the Espresso machine, where It should be stored so it Will stay warm
Now, make a single shot Of espresso in the Cappuccino cup. If you need Help, see the “How to make Espresso” Slide Show!
For a cappuccino, we'll need to foam some milk
Press down this lever to turn on the steamer. You Should turn it on for a Couple seconds to warm it Up before you do anything else
Let it warm up
Now take a milk jug
And fill the jug to at least 1/3 capacity, and probably Not more than ½ capacity
Next, put the steamer into the Middle of the milk, just under the surface
Turn on the steamer
Hover the tip of the steamer just below the surface of the milk. There should Be a distinctive Squeaky Slurp sound.Keep your hand on the bottom to feel the temperature.
When it gets almost too hot to touch,Lower the tip of the Steamer deep into The middle of the Milk for a couple More seconds, then Turn it off.
Pull the milk out and put it down to the side
Grab your clean, fully moist washcloth
Use it to clean off the steamer
Remove a little excess foam and put it in a glass
You can use a spoon, or just pour it out if you feel comfortable
Swirl the milk around and check for bubbles. It should appear smooth as it does above. If not, tap the milk pitcher against the countertop a few times.
Now, pour. You can use a spoon to hold back thick foam, or simply alter the speed and height of your pouring.
If you don't use a spoon, start with the milk pitcher a little higher up.
A cappuccino should have 1/3 Espresso, 1/3 Steamed milk, and 1/3 milk foam. First, add the milk.
As you get to around 2/3 full, use The spoon to push foam into the cup
Keep pushing foam, so the Foam builds up in the cup
When the cup is full, spoon Some foam onto the top
Pile the foam above the top of the cup.
You're ready to serve!
But you're not done yet! This dirty portafilter Needs to be cleaned
First, if you give it one firm tap you should be able To knock the used grounds Into the trash
Then, rinse the portafilter With hot water from the machine
You can dump the remaining Waste into the bottom Of the espresso machine
Once everything's clean You're ready to make the Next drink!
